McGillis Stays in Philly

Following his most offensively productive season in his five year career Dan McGillis decided to stick with the Philadelphia Flyers. McGillis had 14 Goals and 35 assist for 49 points which was good enough for 5th among league defenseman. Dan McGillis also became Mr. Clutch scoring two overtime winners during last season, and the game tier in Game 4 of the Buffalo series. McGillis signed a 3-year deal terms were not disclosed.  McGillis was a big part of the defense last season and with recent moves, acquiring Eric Weinrich and drafting Jeff Woywitka the flyers defense is also improved for the future. Now all we can do is wait and see what unfolds with the Lindros saga, but hopefully a big defensive name will be wearing a flyers sweater sometime next season.

Flyers Ink Weinrich

The Philadelphia Flyers now turned their attention to defense and with unrestricted free agents Sean O'Donnell and Bob Boughner already signed with other teams the flyers decided it was time to make their move. They did in signing 13 year veteran Eric Weinrich to a 3-year deal with the money not disclosed. Bob Clarke was going to wait and see if they could trade Eric Lindros away for Defense, but felt if he waited it might never happen and they might not have any help on defense for next year. This move gives the Flyers a strong 5 defenseman.

Lindros Adds Rangers to List

Restricted Free Agent Eric Lindros has announced that after speaking with Rangers GM Glen Sather, he would play for the Rangers if the Flyers could get a deal done.  Eric Lindros has a boyhood idle named Mark Messier that now plays with the Rangers so a deal with the Rangers would be good for him. What the Flyers would get in return I have no idea, but at least now the flyers have another team to look around and pick players from. The Flyers would be smart to pick up a defenseman or winger in this deal.
