FLYERS TRADE CENTER DAYMOND LANGKOW
TO PHOENIX
The Philadelphia Flyers today
announced that they have traded center Daymond Langkow to the Phoenix
Coyotes in exchange for, at the Flyers option, either the St. Louis
Blues first round pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and the Coyotes
second round pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft or the Coyotes second
round pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and their first round pick in the
2003 NHL Entry Draft, according to club President and General Manager
Bob Clarke.
Daymond is a very good player,
but there is not going to be enough ice time for him with (Jeremy)
Roenick, (Keith) Primeau, (Jiri) Dopita and (Kent) Manderville as our
centermen, said Clarke in making the announcement. As we acquire
players that are 30 and 31 years old, we know someday that we will have
to have players ready to come in and play. Weve been accumulating
draft picks for that reason.
Langkow, 24, recorded 13 goals and
41 assists for 54 points and 50 penalty minutes in 71 regular season
games this past season for the Flyers. In 209 games as a Flyer, he
registered 41 goals and 86 assists for 127 points and 130 penalty
minutes. Langkow was acquired by the Flyers, along with Mikael Renberg,
from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Chris Gratton and Mike
Sillinger on December 12, 1998.
With the acquisition of either a
first or second round pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, the Flyers now
have nine picks over the first four rounds of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
The Phoenix Coyotes acquired a first round pick in the 2002 NHL Entry
Draft, along with Michal Handzus, Ladislav Nagy and the rights to Jeff
Taffe, from St. Louis in exchange for Keith Tkachuk on March 13, 2001.
